PA Flax Project’s Producer Event Series: Part 3 (Processing)

Join us for an in-person Pennsylvania Flax Project Event Series this spring and summer to foster organic fiber flax production and supply chains!

Participate in a hand fiber flax processing workshop, witness the transformation of straw into golden spinnable fiber. See overview of mechanized processing, See examples of products to be produced at the mill, see an overview of PA Flax Project Mill plans.

This event will take place in both Spanish and English with simultaneous interpretation. Spanish-only, English-only, and bilingual speakers are all invited to attend this workshop.

At this event, you can expect to…

  • Meet existing and prospective organic buyers and growers

  • Get connected to the emerging organic flax-to-linen industry in Pennsylvania

  • Learn about: 

    • How fiber flax fits into organic rotations

    • How fiber flax is processed from field to spinnable fiber

    • Opportunities through PA Flax Project's cooperative business model

    • Organic certification requirements 

    • Technical assistance opportunities during organic transition  

Who: All are welcome and these stakeholders are especially encouraged to attend:

  • Farmers who are organic-curious, transitioning, or certified organic, of all production types

  • Textile and Bast Fiber supply chain stakeholders (i.e. papermakers, bio-composite manufacturers , bast fiber buyers, fashion designers, etc.)

  • Buyers of fiber flax and other alternative grains 

  • Those interested in participating in regional organic textile supply chains from the ground up

  • Those interested in using co-products produced at the mill for chicken feed (immature seed), biocomposites, animal bedding (particularly horses) and short fibers for ring spinning and/or papermaking.

  • People interested in investing in local, ethical, sustainable bast fiber textiles supply chains

  • Government officials

  • Local Universities and those interested in &/or engaged in researching the uses and production of flax.

Facts to know:

  • Priority Registration goes to producers in these counties: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, and Philadelphia. We plan to expand in the future.

  • Attendance cap (limited to 20 please register below to secure your spot)
