PA Fibershed is seeking committed Board members to help advance our strategic objectives and support our mission of building a sustainable, equitable, circular and local textile economy. Our strategic objectives include:

  • Creating a thriving, interconnected, and equitable local textile economy that regenerates the soil and supports local communities.

  • Becoming the go-to organization for building a circular supply chain for fiber and textiles in Pennsylvania.

  • Advocating for policies that support the rebuilding of a sustainable, equitable, and circular domestic fiber and textile industry.

  • Fostering connections within the local supply chain to promote the adoption of sustainable and circular business practices.

  • Educating children, students, industry professionals, government officials, and the general public to drive systemic change toward a more sustainable future.

About PA Fibershed:

  • Mission: Pennsylvania Fibershed is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting, empowering and rebuilding the fiber and textile communities in Pennsylvania. Our mission is to build a more sustainable, equitable and circular future for textiles and the environment through educational programming and industry development.

  • Vision: We envision a Pennsylvania where the fiber, fashion and textile industries operate in harmony with nature, prioritizing circular economy principles and supporting local communities. Through our efforts, we aim to restore Pennsylvania's once-booming textile economy, creating a thriving, interconnected network of individuals and businesses committed to ethical and sustainable fashion practices.

Who We Are Looking For:

Ideal board members for PA Fibershed would be individuals who:

  • Have expertise in the textile, agriculture, or sustainability sectors: Including farmers, agronomists, and professionals who understand the challenges and opportunities in building a local, sustainable fiber and textile economy.

  • Are passionate about environmental and social sustainability: Advocates for creating a regenerative and equitable supply chain that supports local communities and ecosystems.

  • Bring diverse perspectives and skills: Such as backgrounds in business development, marketing and communications, policy advocacy, education, community engagement, and circular economy practices.

  • Have strong connections within the local community: Individuals who can help build networks across industries and support collaboration within the supply chain.

  • Are experienced in nonprofit leadership and governance: Proven experience serving on boards or leading organizations, with the ability to provide strategic guidance, oversight, and support for the Executive Director.

  • Are committed to advocacy: Willing to engage with policymakers and stakeholders to advance our mission of a sustainable, equitable, and circular domestic fiber industry.

  • Understand Local Economic Development: Experience in strengthening local economies and fostering resilience through innovative approaches.

Additionally, board members will exhibit:

  • A strong commitment to PA Fibershed's mission and vision.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in governance, nonprofit leadership, or relevant fields (e.g., agriculture, textiles, business development).

  • The ability to contribute financially or through fundraising efforts.

  • Enthusiasm for collaboration and teamwork.

  • Time commitment to attend quarterly board meetings and participate in committee work.

These qualities will help us drive systemic change and foster a resilient and thriving local textile economy.
