Meet the Makers: Justin Beitzel: Designing with Intention

Designing with Intention: When Natural Fibers & Product Design Intersect

What if the future of product design starts with the materials growing in our own region?

Join us for our August Meet the Makers webinar featuring Justin Beitzel, co-founder of Common Object Studio, as he explores how natural fibers are reshaping the way we think about products, furniture, and material innovation.

Drawing from his experience designing furniture for some of the world's largest manufacturers while collaborating directly with Pennsylvania farmers and mills through his brand, Common Object, Justin will share how regional fiber systems can inspire more thoughtful, transparent, and sustainable products.

Through historical references, real-world projects, and experimental case studies, Justin will take us on his journey of discovering the role design plays in creating beauty from regional, circular systems.

Together, we'll explore:

  • How natural fibers can unlock new possibilities for product and furniture design

  • Why supply chain transparency matters to today's designers and consumers

  • The untapped potential of materials like wool and hemp in modern manufacturing

  • How designing with regional materials creates products rooted in place, purpose, and sustainability

  • Real-world case studies that bridge agriculture, design, and innovation

Whether you're a designer, maker, manufacturer, architect, student, fiber enthusiast, or simply curious about the future of sustainable materials, this webinar will offer fresh ideas and practical insights into how design can help build stronger regional economies.

Join us on August 12 at 12:00 PM ET and discover how the next generation of products may begin with the fibers grown right here in our communities.

Grab your lunch, log in, and join us for an inspiring conversation at the intersection of design, agriculture, and sustainability.
